Recently I have been doing some thinking around verses that are fundamental to my beliefs and well John 3:16 is kind of a biggy.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” – John 3:16
There are two important points that make this verse a biggy in the Christian walk.
The first is that God loved the world so much he gave up his son so he could have a relationship with us. Until you have children or have lost a child I feel that it is incredibly difficult to understand the entirety of this statement because God is after all our father. He is our heavenly father so it would not have been easy for him to give up his son for us. But he did it because he knew that there was a greater plan at work. Because he knew his son would bridge the gap between us and God.
The second is the promise within this verse. That whoever believes in his son (Jesus) will have eternal life.
This means that no matter what I have said or what I have done I am loved by the creator of the universe and that because I believe in the creator’s Son I have the promise of eternal life.
